Job summary

STRIVE Search is seeking a motivated Junior Quantity Surveyor to join a civil engineering and demolition contractor in Ireland. You will support cost control, valuations and procurement on groundworks and enabling works, developing your commercial career.

Working closely with the commercial and project teams, you’ll gain exposure to measurements, variations and final accounts while building strong relationships with clients and subcontractors.

Qualifications

  • Degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
  • 1-3 years' experience in Quantity Surveying.
  • Experience in civil engineering, groundworks, demolition or general construction.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Commercial Manager with commercial management of civil projects.
  • Prepare monthly valuations, payment applications and cost reports.
  • Measure and value completed works across civil disciplines.
  • Assist with variations, procurement and subcontractor payments.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and cost/value reconciliations.
  • Support risk management and final accounts.
  • Liaise with site teams to monitor progress and costs.

Junior Quantity Surveyor – €45k Salary + Company Vehicle

Background

A key client are looking to speak with an ambitious Junior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team of an established civil engineering and demolition contractor. This role would suit a Quantity Surveyor with 1–3 years' experience, or a recent graduate with relevant placement or site experience, who is looking to develop their commercial career across civil engineering, groundworks, demolition and enabling works projects.

Working closely with experienced commercial and project teams, the successful candidate will gain broad exposure to project cost control, procurement, valuations, variations, subcontractor management and commercial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Commercial Manager with the commercial management of civil engineering, groundworks, demolition and enabling works projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly valuations, applications for payment and project cost reports.
  • Measure and value completed works across excavation, drainage, concrete, substructure, demolition and associated civil works.
  • Assist with the preparation, assessment and agreement of variations and additional works.
  • Monitor project costs and expenditure against agreed budgets, highlighting any potential commercial issues.
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement, tender analysis and the comparison of supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Assist with reviewing and processing subcontractor payment applications.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records, including measurements, valuations, variations, purchase orders and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with monthly cost/value reconciliation, forecasting and reporting.
  • Work closely with site engineers, foremen and project managers to accurately monitor progress and completed works.
  • Attend site visits to develop a strong understanding of construction operations and ensure commercial records accurately reflect works completed on site.
  • Assist with the procurement of materials, plant and subcontractor packages.
  • Support the identification and management of commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist with the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
  • Review drawings, specifications and project documentation to ensure a clear understanding of scope and commercial requirements.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams.
Key Requirements
  • Degree or relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline.
  • 1-3 years' experience within Quantity Surveying, ideally within civil engineering, groundworks, demolition or general construction.
  • Recent Quantity Surveying graduates with relevant placement or site experience will also be considered.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of construction costs, valuations, variations, procurement and commercial management.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the confidence to work with site and commercial teams.
  • Commercially aware with a proactive approach to learning and problem solving.
  • Willingness to work between the office and construction sites and develop a strong understanding of project delivery.
