Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Lead

Summary
An established and growing earthworks, plant hire and bulk haulage contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to work closely with the Managing Director and take a senior role within the commercial side of the business.
This is a broad commercial position suited to somebody who is comfortable looking after projects from initial pricing and tender stage through valuations, variations, cost control and final account.
The successful candidate will have considerable autonomy and will work directly with senior management, operational teams, clients and main contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage monthly valuations and payment applications.
- Review payments received and identify any outstanding commercial issues.
- Identify, price, submit and negotiate variations and additional works.
- Ensure all works completed on site are properly captured and commercially recovered.
- Prepare cost reports, forecasts and project commercial reviews.
- Monitor project costs, margins and profitability.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and operational teams to understand progress and commercial exposure.
- Review drawings, specifications, programmes and contract documentation.
- Prepare tenders, quotations and pricing for new projects.
- Assist the Managing Director with winning and negotiating new work.
- Carry out measurement and preparation of bills/rates where required.
- Assess subcontractor and supplier quotations and manage associated accounts.
- Manage commercial correspondence and contractual notifications.
- Negotiate and agree final accounts with clients and main contractors.
- Develop and improve commercial systems, reporting and controls across the business.
- Build strong relationships with existing Tier 1 contractor clients and assist in developing repeat business.
Experience Required
- Experienced Quantity Surveyor, ideally at Senior QS level.
- Background in civil engineering, earthworks, groundworks, infrastructure or main contracting would be particularly suitable.
- Strong understanding of valuations, variations, measurement, pricing and final accounts.
- Commercially astute with the confidence to negotiate directly with clients and main contractors.
- Comfortable working within a fast-moving, owner-led business rather than a heavily corporate environment.
- Able to work independently and take ownership of the commercial function.
- Experience tendering and pricing earthworks/civil engineering packages would be a major advantage.
