This is a technical supporter / individual contributor role with coordination responsibilities. The position supports infrastructure delivery, vendor follow-up, documentation, testing and operational readiness, while escalating decisions, risks and approvals through the appropriate project, IT and quality governance channels.
INTRODUCTION TO ROLE
The IT Infrastructure Technician / Infrastructure Delivery Support role provides hands-on technical and coordination support for the delivery of IT infrastructure at the Athlone site. The role supports installation, configuration, commissioning, verification, documentation and handover of infrastructure services including network, server, storage, cabling, Wi-Fi, IT room and related ICT components. The role works under the direction of IT and project leadership and collaborates with Engineering, Facilities, Automation, Quality, Global IT Operations, vendors and project teams to ensure infrastructure is delivered safely, securely, compliantly and in accordance with approved standards and project requirements.
KEY AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY
- Infrastructure Delivery: Support delivery of critical IT infrastructure work packages from installation through commissioning and operational handover. Coordinate with Engineering, Facilities, Automation, vendors and Global IT Operations.
- Vendor Compliance: Monitor ICT vendor activities, support site coordination, raise concerns or deviations, and verify that work is completed in line with agreed scope, safety requirements, documentation standards and approved technical specifications.
- Construction Support: Participate in construction walk-downs, identify installation defects, manage snag lists and verify completion prior to acceptance.
- Documentation and Compliance Support: Prepare, review and maintain technical documentation including asset records, rack layouts, patching records, test evidence, as-built drawings, commissioning records, handover packs and ServiceNow-related information where applicable.
- Project Governance: Participate in Tiered meetings, manage infrastructure risks, issues and actions, and provide status updates to project leadership.
- IT Room and Asset Standards: Support good housekeeping, access discipline, labelling, environmental monitoring, cable management, asset traceability and quality standards within IT rooms, MDFs, DFs, IDFs and server spaces.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree, diploma, trade qualification or equivalent experience in IT, Computer Science, Network Engineering, Infrastructure, Electrical/ICT systems or a related technical discipline.
- 3-5 years' experience supporting IT infrastructure, ICT deployment, data centre, network, server room or regulated manufacturing infrastructure projects.
- Practical experience with structured cabling, rack builds, patching, network hardware, server hardware, Wi-Fi infrastructure, asset management and technical documentation.
- Ability to follow approved procedures, standards, drawings, method statements and project instructions while working safely in construction, commissioning or operational environments.
- Good understanding of LAN/WAN, VLANs, switching, routing, Active Directory, ITIL practices, change control and incident management principles.
- Strong communication, documentation, stakeholder coordination and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving project environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in pharmaceutical, GMP, GxP or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience supporting FAT, SAT, installation verification, commissioning packs, construction turnover packs, vendor turnover packs or operational handover documentation.
- Knowledge of ServiceNow, CMDB, asset lifecycle management, change management and supplier follow-up processes.
