Technical Consultant – Infrastructure

We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused Technical Consultant to join our client's Service Delivery team.
This is an infrastructure-focused technical role, supporting enterprise customers across a range of on-premises and cloud environments. The successful candidate will act as a key technical resolver within an ITIL-aligned Service Delivery function, providing second-line support, infrastructure administration, technical troubleshooting and project support.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong IT infrastructure experience, especially across VMware virtualisation, backup and restore technologies, servers, storage and disaster recovery.
The role would suit an infrastructure professional who enjoys troubleshooting complex technical issues, taking ownership of incidents through to resolution and working with a broad range of enterprise technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide second-line technical support for incidents, service requests and escalations.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve infrastructure issues across virtualisation, servers, storage, networking and cloud environments.
- Provide hands‑on support across VMware environments, including virtual machine administration, troubleshooting and infrastructure health checks.
- Perform and troubleshoot backup and restore operations, investigate backup failures and support disaster recovery activities.
- Carry out routine infrastructure administration, monitoring reviews, system health checks and proactive maintenance.
- Support the identification and resolution of recurring infrastructure issues and contribute to continual service improvement.
- Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations, service improvements and project deployments.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, ticket records, infrastructure information and customer environment documentation.
- Provide professional remote and onsite technical support to customers where required.
- Work closely with Technical Analysts, senior technical staff, vendors and customers to resolve complex issues.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, technical documentation and mentoring of less experienced team members.
Technical Experience:
The successful candidate will have experience across enterprise IT infrastructure, with particular strength in virtualisation and backup technologies.
Experience with a strong selection of the following would be advantageous:
- VMware vSphere / VMware Cloud Foundation, including virtual machine administration and troubleshooting.
- Backup and restore technologies, backup monitoring, troubleshooting failed backups and recovery processes.
- Disaster recovery and business continuity environments.
- Enterprise server and storage infrastructure.
- HPE ProLiant servers.
- HPE SimpliVity, HPE Alletra, Nimble, Primera or similar enterprise storage platforms.
- Hyper‑V or other virtualisation / Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) platforms.
- Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Microsoft 365 technologies.
- HPE Aruba switching, wireless and network management platforms.
- Infrastructure monitoring and management solutions.
- Identity, security and access management technologies.
- ITSM platforms such as ServiceDesk Plus and ITIL-aligned service management processes.
Requirements:
- 3-5+ years' experience in an infrastructure support, systems administration or technical consulting rôle.
- Strong hands‑on experience in IT infrastructure, particularly VMware and backup/restore environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across multiple technology domains.
- Experience handling technical incidents and service requests beyond first-line support.
- A good understanding of server, storage, virtualisation and backup infrastructure.
- Experience investigating technical faults and taking ownership of issues through to resolution.
- Strong customer communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within structured ITSM processes and service standards.
- Strong documentation, organisational and time‑management skills.
- Relevant certifications such as VMware VCP, Microsoft, HPE, HPE Aruba, Fortinet or ITIL would be advantageous.
