Job summary

WSP in Ireland is seeking a Cable Systems Engineer to deliver HV and EHV cable solutions across transmission, distribution, and offshore interconnectors. Based in our Ireland offices, you will join a growing team blending local knowledge with WSP's global energy expertise.

You will design cables, run studies with CYMCAP, produce technical deliverables, and support installation, testing, and commissioning. The role includes site assessments, standards compliance, and collaboration with clients,

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience delivering HV and EHV cable systems across HVAC projects; HVDC exposure advantageous.
• Strong understanding of cable system design, ampacity and rating studies, thermal assessments, and installation methods.
• Experience supporting major transmission/distribution projects, renewable developments, offshore connections, or interconnectors.
• Knowledge of IEC standards, CIGRE guidance, and related technical specs for cable systems.
• Experience FAT, site testing, installation supervision, commissioning, and witnessing of cable manufacturing/installation.
• Ability to lead technically within multidisciplinary teams and liaise with clients/contractors.
• Engagement with professional bodies such as CIGRE, IEEE, EI or IET would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop HV and EHV cable systems for power transmission and distribution projects, selecting cables, accessories, installation methods, and architectures.
• Carry out cable system studies and technical assessments using tools like CYMCAP.
• Produce high-quality deliverables, calculations, specifications, and design documentation.
• Support HVAC and HVDC solutions for onshore, offshore, and interconnector projects.
• Conduct route/site/installation assessments, considering technical, environmental, and constructability factors.
• Ensure designs comply with standards, client specs, safety, and environmental regs.
• Collaborate with PMs, construction teams, manufacturers, and clients to deliver cable system projects.
• Review design changes and provide technical support through manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning.
