BHA Construction is a residential developer and contractor delivering over 400 homes per year, with an annual turnover of approximately €65 million and 135 direct employees across our sites and head office. We work closely with purchasers, funders, and local authorities to deliver quality residential developments across Ireland.
Role Purpose
The HR Manager will lead the HR function for BHA Construction, owning recruiting, people management, and change management across the business, alongside the full range of day-to-day HR responsibilities. This is a hands-on, generalist role covering a workforce that spans site-based construction teams and head office staff, reporting directly to the Operations Director and working closely with senior management on the people side of a fast-growing residential contractor.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end recruiting for the business — workforce planning, writing job specs, sourcing, screening, interviewing, and extending offers, across both site-based and head office roles
- Lead people management company-wide, including performance management, supporting line managers with one-to-ones and development conversations, and succession planning
- Drive change management initiatives across the business, supporting evolving processes, systems, and team structures as BHA scales
- Own employee relations, including disciplinary, grievance, and performance issues, and exit processes, handled in line with Irish employment law
- Maintain and evolve HR policies, ensuring ongoing compliance with Irish employment legislation
- Manage compensation and benefits administration, including benchmarking and liaison with payroll
- Lead onboarding and induction for new hires across both site and office roles
- Own HR reporting for leadership, including headcount, turnover, absence, and other people metrics
- Partner with the health & safety function on site induction and workforce compliance requirements
- Lead staff retention initiatives, working with site and project leadership to address turnover and improve job knowledge continuity
- Partner with senior management on org design and workforce planning as the business grows
Requirements
- Degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline; CIPD qualification (or working towards) preferred
- 5+ years' HR generalist or HR management experience, ideally within construction, engineering, or another project-based industry
- Strong working knowledge of Irish employment law and HR best practice
- Experience managing full-cycle recruitment, including at volume
- Proven experience leading organisational or process change
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working across all levels from site operatives to senior leadership
- Full clean driving licence, with willingness to travel to sites as required

- Experience working in the construction sector
- Experience designing or leading a staff retention strategy in a high-turnover environment
- Familiarity with HR information systems and payroll software
