Job summary

Special Olympics Ireland seeks a Finance Director to provide strategic leadership and governance over financial strategy, management, and compliance. As ELT member and CEO report, you will drive modernisation, robust controls, and sustainable delivery.

You will partner with the CEO and ELT to stabilise finances, lead annual planning, manage risks, and oversee grant stewardship, ensuring timely, accurate reporting for the Board and funders.

Qualifications

• Recognised professional accountancy qualification with current standing.
• Significant post-qualification experience in senior financial leadership.
• Proven track record leading finance transformation/change and digital adoption.
• Experience implementing modern accounting/ERP software in complex environments.
• Experience in financial risk management and reporting.
• Deep charity accounting expertise including SORP and restricted funds.

Responsibilities

• Lead finance transformation and digital modernisation, replacing Excel-heavy processes with automated workflows.
• Oversee selection and implementation of financial systems with governance and sponsorship.
• Establish management-information framework and Board reporting from controlled data sources.
• Lead annual and multi-annual financial planning; present budgets and scenarios to CEO, ELT, and Board.
• Provide executive oversight of cash flow, reserves, liquidity and investments.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain robust internal controls.
• Oversee grant stewardship, restricted funds and compliance with funders.
• Develop clear performance expectations and upskill the finance team.
