Job summary

ALONE in Mullingar, Ireland, is seeking a Volunteer Support Officer. This full-time permanent field-based role involves travel with a 35-hour week to recruit, train and support volunteers delivering Befriending and Support services for older people.

The successful candidate will manage volunteer onboarding, provide ongoing guidance, and coordinate with service teams to place volunteers efficiently across the community.

Qualifications

• Recruitment experience and partnerships in community settings is a plus.
• Organisational & coordination skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Experience using CRM systems and digital tools for volunteer management and reporting.
• Background in the voluntary/charity sector is desirable.
• Safeguarding knowledge including Garda clearance and ethical volunteer management.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholders internal & external.
• Collaborative team player with strong relationship-building.
• Proactive problem-solver with a focus on service delivery improvements.
• Strong time management to prioritise workload and meet KPIs.
• A clean full driving licence with own car is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead recruitment, training, vetting and onboarding of volunteers to build a strong network.
• Provide ongoing guidance, communication and issue resolution to volunteers.
• Work with the service team to match trained volunteers with older people promptly.
• Promote ALONE’s Befriending and Support services and identify local events for participation.
• Implement programmes to enhance volunteer engagement and recognise contributions.
• Develop local volunteer leadership and organise social community events.
• Support ongoing enhancement of the volunteer programme with best practices.
