Job summary

Hunter Savage is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the design and development of heavy‑duty mobile machinery in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.

You will report to the General Manager, shaping technical direction, and overseeing a team of engineers from concept to launch. The role demands hands‑on leadership, strong project and supplier management, and a commercial mindset to balance cost, quality and delivery.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in design, development and launch of heavy machinery or related equipment.
  • Experience leading an engineering team or function.
  • Strong project management and supplier management experience.
  • Commercial approach with budget management and cost, quality, delivery balancing.

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of engineers across design, development and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee multiple engineering projects with quality, cost and timescale targets.
  • Drive product development from concept through design, testing, validation and launch.

Engineering Manager (Design)

We are hiring for our client, an established manufacturer of heavy‑duty mobile machinery, as they seek to appoint an experienced Engineering Manager to join their senior management team in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Engineering Manager will lead the engineering function and oversee the development of innovative machinery from initial concept through to successful product launch. This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager, Design Manager or Senior/Lead Engineer who enjoys developing people, shaping technical direction and delivering high-quality products that meet customer and commercial requirements.

The Role

As Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of engineers across product design, development and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee multiple engineering projects, ensuring delivery against agreed quality, cost and timescale requirements.
  • Lead product development activity from concept through design, testing, validation and launch.
  • Work closely with operations, quality, sales, service, supply chain and customers to define engineering requirements.
  • Champion robust engineering processes, including design control, change management and verification and validation.
  • Lead root‑cause investigations into field issues and implement practical, cost‑effective technical solutions.
  • Manage engineering resources, departmental budgets and project priorities.
  • Drive component and sub‑assembly standardisation to improve quality, serviceability and cost.
  • Ensure product designs meet required standards for safety, performance, functionality and reliability.
  • Establish clear objectives, development plans and performance measures for the engineering team.
  • Support customers, suppliers and global engineering teams, including periodic overseas travel.
The Person

The successful Engineering Manager should have:

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline or an equivalent qualification.
  • A strong background in the design, development and launch of heavy machinery or related industrial equipment.
  • Previous experience leading an engineering team or function.
  • Alternatively, experience as a Senior or Lead Engineer with the capability to step into engineering management.
  • Strong project management and supplier management experience.
  • Experience delivering cost reductions, product improvements and wider business value.
  • Confidence operating at a strategic level while remaining comfortable with technical detail.
  • Experience using CAD systems and structured product development processes.
  • Strong people‑management, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • A commercial approach, with experience managing budgets and balancing cost, quality and delivery priorities.
  • A structured and practical approach to problem‑solving.

Membership of a relevant professional engineering body would be advantageous.
