Job summary

Highfield Healthcare is seeking a Catering Assistant to support the catering team for 300+ residents and staff. The role covers meal delivery, basic food prep, and maintaining HACCP standards within a busy, multicultural kitchen environment.

The successful candidate will follow HACCP guidelines, manage goods flow, and keep all areas clean and stocked. Equality and safety are emphasised, with benefits including uniform and discount schemes post-probation.

Qualifications

• Authorisation to work in Ireland; no work permits issued for this role.
• Experience in a kitchen porter, catering, or similar role desirable.
• Good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards; HACCP knowledge is a plus.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and as part of a multicultural team.
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Ensure HACCP programme is understood and implemented.
• Oversee goods in and out of the kitchen and maintain records.
• Assist with the delivery of meals to units.
• Assist with basic food preparation as required by the chef.
• Keep kitchen, fridges, freezers, cold room and stores clean and tidy.
• Replace delph, crockery and cutlery to designated areas for re-use.
• Wash pots and pans as used.
• Complete all HACCP forms as required.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment and areas are clean and tidy at all times.

Job description

Catering Assistant

The Highfield Healthcare Catering Department provide meals, snacks, beverages and sundries to our 300+ residents and patients as well as to our colleagues in the staff canteen and visitors to our coffee shop. Our Catering Department is a multicultural team with an excellent work environment.

Type of contract:Full time - 70 hours per fortnight

Location:Highfield Healthcare, Swords Rd, Whitehall, Dublin, D09 H343. Short distance from city centre with free parking and bus stop (multiple routes) at the front door.

Successful candidate will:

• Ensure that they are fully aware of the HACCP Programme and that HACCP guidelines are fully implemented.
• Be responsible for goods in & out of the kitchen and maintenance of records for same.
• Assist with the delivery of meals to units.
• Assist with basic food preparation as required by chef.
• Ensure all requirements are met, depending on residents needs/requests.
• Empty all returned trays and wash contents plus trays.
• Keep all kitchen, fridges, freezers, cold room and stores areas clean and tidy.
• Replace all delph, crockery and cutlery to designated areas for re-use.
• As Chef requires, wash pots and pans as used.
• Complete all HACCP forms as required.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment, including ovens, vents, extractor fans, work tops, fridges-freezers, cooker hoods, walls & fly screens to be kept clean and tidy at all times.
• Clean and wash floors as required, and keep kitchen area clean at all times, assist with kitchen deep cleans as required.

Requirements:

• Be authorised to work in Ireland –no work permits will be issued for this role.
• Previous experience in a kitchen porter, catering, or similar role is desirable
• Good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP knowledge is an advantage)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and as part of a multicultural team
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
• Flexibility to assist with basic food preparation duties as required
