Job summary

Austin Engineering Ltd. in Batam, Indonesia seeks a Senior Project Planner Engineer to own project planning and control from kickoff to completion.

You will translate requirements into schedules, budgets, manpower, materials, and milestones, coordinating with multiple teams to recover performance as needed. The role requires 10+ years in project planning/controls, heavy industry experience, and proficiency with MS Project and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with 10+ years of project planning/controls experience.
• Senior High School (SMA/SMK) with 15+ years of relevant manufacturing/fabrication experience encouraged to apply.
• Experience in plate fabrication, heavy fabrication, workshop supervision preferred.
• Able to develop schedules, monitor progress, manage resources, and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with material take-offs, BOMs, and coordination with Procurement.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, budgets, manpower, materials, and resources to ensure on-time completion.
• Track daily/weekly progress, compare planned vs. actual, monitor KPIs and identify delays early.
• Monitor costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors within budget.
• Identify risks and delays and take action to minimize impact on project.
• Prepare progress, cost, KPI, and forecast reports and communicate status to management.
• Review drawings, prepare material take-offs and BOMs, coordinate with Procurement.
• Coordinate fabrication/production planning with workshop teams and ensure targets.
• Lead daily production and project meetings, assign actions, follow up on progress.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in planning, productivity and reporting.

Your future role

As a Senior Project Planner Engineer, you will take ownership of project planning and control activities from the initial project kick-off through fabrication and completion. You will translate project requirements into practical execution plans, schedules, manpower requirements, material requirements, budgets, and measurable milestones. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing or heavy-industry environment, analyzing project data, challenging delays, identifying bottlenecks, and working with different teams to recover project performance when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning: Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, budgets, manpower, materials, and resources to ensure projects are completed on time.
2. Progress Monitoring: Track daily and weekly project progress, compare planned vs. actual performance, monitor KPIs, and identify delays or issues early.
3. Cost Control: Monitor project costs for labor, materials, consumables, equipment, and subcontractors to keep spending within budget.
4. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and delays related to engineering, materials, procurement, production, manpower, and subcontractors, and take action to minimize their impact.
5. Reporting & Communication: Prepare clear project progress, cost, KPI, and forecast reports and communicate project status, issues, and actions to management and stakeholders.
6. Take-Off & BOM: Review drawings, prepare material take-offs and Bills of Materials (BOM), calculate material requirements, and coordinate with Procurement to ensure materials are available on time.
7. Fabrication & Production Planning: Coordinate with workshop and production teams to plan and monitor fabrication activities, manpower, materials, equipment, and production targets.
8. Meeting Leadership: Lead daily production and project meetings, review progress and issues, assign action items, and follow up to ensure timely completion.
9. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve planning, productivity, cost control, reporting, and project execution while promoting best practices and teamwork.

Skills & Experience

• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field with 10+ years of experience in project planning, project control, project management, or a similar role.
• Alternative Qualification: Senior High School (SMA/SMK) graduates with 15+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or heavy industry are also encouraged to apply.
• Heavy Industry Experience: Experience in plate fabrication, heavy fabrication, manufacturing, or workshop supervision is highly preferred.
• Project Planning Skills: Strong ability to develop project schedules, monitor progress, manage resources, and ensure projects meet planned deadlines.
• Cost Control: Able to calculate and monitor costs for labor, materials, consumables, equipment, and subcontractors, and identify potential cost overruns.
• Material & BOM: Experienced in preparing material take-offs and Bills of Materials (BOM) and coordinating material requirements with Procurement.
• Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of structural steel, process piping, modular structures, heavy plate fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
• Engineering Drawings: Able to read and understand mechanical and fabrication drawings; knowledge of AutoCAD is an advantage but not mandatory.
• Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, and MS Project; knowledge of MS Access/database systems is an advantage.
• Leadership & Communication: Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with Engineering, Production, Procurement, Quality, and Project teams.
• Meeting & Coordination Skills: Confident in leading daily production meetings and project kick-off meetings, setting actions, following up progress, and keeping teams aligned.
• Working Under Pressure: Able to manage multiple priorities, solve project issues, meet tight deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• English: Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
