Monroe Consulting Group, an Executive Recruitment firm, is partnering with an organisation in the Professional Services sector to hire a Regional Head (Priority Banking, East Java). This opportunity is based in Surabaya, Indonesia. We are seeking an accomplished banking leader with strong expertise in retail funding and wealth management, alongside a proven ability to drive business growth, develop high-performing teams, and build lasting client relationships.
Position Overview
Lead and scale regional performance across Priority Banking, Wealth Management, and Commercial/Retail Banking segments, with accountability for growth, profitability, and client engagement. Drive both client acquisition and portfolio expansion strategies while fostering a collaborative, relationship-focused leadership culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the region's P&L, balance sheet growth, fee-based income, and overall financial metrics to align with the bank's overarching funding expansion goals.
- Hunting: Drive aggressive business development strategies to acquire net-new-to-bank (NTB) Priority Banking clients, family offices, commercial accounts, and high-net-worth individuals across the region.
- Farming: Deepen existing relationships, maximise share-of-wallet, and drive cross-selling across wealth products, trade finance, cash management, and lending facilities.
2. Wealth Management & Priority Banking Strategy
- Leverage deep technical domain expertise in investment, treasury, insurance (bancassurance), and structured wealth solutions to position the bank as the primary financial partner for Priority and Private Banking clients.
- Monitor macroeconomic trends and local market movements to advise Relationship Managers (RMs) and high-value clients on optimal wealth distribution and portfolio strategies.
- Maintain oversight of portfolio quality, asset allocation risk, and compliance with OJK/BI regulations regarding wealth product distribution.
- Cultivate a supportive, collaborative, and highly engaged work culture through a personable, relationship-first leadership approach.
- Actively coach, mentor, and upskill Branch Managers, Area Managers, and Senior Relationship Managers (RMs) in consultative selling, client acquisition, and wealth advisory.
- Build high trust within the organisation, leading from the front during key client interactions and cross-departmental operations.
4. High-Touch Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Establish and maintain warm, trusted, long-term relationships with top-tier clients, regional business figures, and key local stakeholders.
- Serve as executive sponsor for high-value client negotiations and high-complexity financial structuring.
5. Governance & Operational Excellence
- Ensure strict adherence to anti-money laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and OJK regulatory standards across all regional wealth and branch activities.
- Maintain healthy credit and operational risk profiles, minimizing Non-Performing Loans (NPL) and operational breaches within the region.
Key Requirements (Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree from a reputable local or international university (Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related fields preferred).
- Minimum of 12-15+ years of progressive experience in banking, with at least 5+ years in a senior management/regional leadership role (VP or equivalent) within an established Indonesian bank or foreign/multinational bank.
- Proven track record as a successful Relationship Manager (RM) or Business Head in Priority/Private Banking and Wealth Management.
- Fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia, both written and spoken.
- Strong understanding of local business dynamics within Indonesian regional markets is advantageous.
Technical / Functional Expertise
- Demonstrated capability to balance aggressive market acquisition (hunting) with client retention and portfolio maximisation (farming).
- Strong expertise in retail funding, wealth management, and priority banking.
- Strong understanding of mutual funds, bonds/SBN, structured products, bancassurance, and wealth advisory methodologies.
- Deep knowledge of investment, treasury, insurance, structured wealth solutions, and portfolio management.
- Familiarity with OJK/BI regulations governing wealth product distribution.
- Strong understanding of AML, KYC, credit risk, operational risk, and regulatory compliance.
- Certifications:
- WPER / WPEP (Capital Market Sales)
- AAJI (Insurance Certification)
- BSMR / LSPP Risk Management Certification (Minimum Level 3 or 4)
