Job summary

Kulu is seeking a Lead AI Product Engineer in Bali to own both product and technical direction of our real-time AI agents. You will lead engineers hands-on, design architecture, review code, and ship production features while shaping team culture.

This role demands deep product understanding, strong opinions, and the ability to diagnose failures, conduct root-cause analysis, and drive high-quality, reliable AI experiences for users.

Qualifications

• Proven software engineering fundamentals and production-grade systems experience.
• Strong intuition for LLM behavior and prompt design; capable of architecting AI systems.
• Excellent product judgment and ability to reason about complex system behavior.
• Experience with asynchronous, distributed, or real-time apps; comfortable across APIs and backends.
• Ability to read large production codebases and make architectural decisions.
• High agency with leadership experience; clear communication in English.
• Company language is English; strong written and spoken proficiency required.

Responsibilities

• Own the behavior of the AI product, guiding production systems end-to-end.
• Design and evolve agent architecture, including LLM orchestration and prompts.
• Lead engineers; review work, provide feedback, and support growth.
• Perform root-cause analysis of agent failures and tie fixes to underlying causes.
• Balance deterministic logic with AI-driven decisions to ensure reliability.
• Ship production changes when needed and maintain high engineering standards.
