Job summary

Kulu is hiring a Lead AI Product Engineer to own the AI systems at the heart of our product. This role is Bali-based and requires presence on site. You will guide both engineering and product decisions, ships features, and fosters a high-performance team culture.

You will lead the behavior of our AI agents, design production architecture, and directly review engineers while still coding when needed. Strong English and deep product judgment are essential.

Qualifications

• Exceptional software engineering fundamentals and production AI experience.
• Strong intuition for LLM behavior and prompt design.
• Excellent product judgment for complex, real-time systems.
• Experience with asynchronous, distributed or real-time apps.
• Ability to understand a large production codebase and architecture.
• High agency; experience guiding and mentoring engineers.
• Fluent/Advanced English with professional communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI product behavior and architecture decisions for production systems.
• Hands-on coding, reviewing PRs, debugging hard failures.
• Guide and review engineers; own technical ownership and delivery.
• Define reliability, performance metrics and success criteria.
• Lead Bali-based team-building and office culture initiatives.
• Balance deterministic code and LLM-driven components in design.
