About the Role
We are looking for a Commercial Shipyard Supervisor to support and supervise commercial activities related to ship repair, maintenance, dry-docking, and newbuilding projects.
The role will be responsible for coordinating quotations, commercial proposals, contracts, project costing, customer communication, billing, and commercial documentation while working closely with Engineering, Production, Procurement, Finance, and shipyard teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate commercial activities for shipyard projects, including ship repair, dry-docking, maintenance, and newbuilding projects.
- Prepare and review commercial proposals, quotations, tenders, and pricing submissions based on project requirements.
- Review technical scopes, work specifications, BOQ/BOM, and cost estimates to ensure commercial proposals accurately reflect the required scope.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Estimation, Procurement, Production, and Project teams to develop competitive and commercially viable proposals.
- Review and evaluate project costs, vendor quotations, subcontractor pricing, material costs, labor costs, and other project-related expenses.
- Monitor project budgets, revenue, margins, costs, and commercial performance.
- Prepare commercial comparison, cost analysis, and pricing recommendations for management review.
- Manage communication and commercial coordination with ship owners, ship managers, vessel representatives, agents, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Review and negotiate commercial terms, pricing, payment terms, scope, and other contractual requirements with customers and business partners.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing contracts, purchase orders, work orders, and other commercial agreements.
- Monitor project progress and identify scope changes, additional works, and variation orders that may have commercial implications.
- Prepare and submit variation orders, additional work quotations, and commercial claims when required.
- Ensure additional work is properly documented, approved, and reflected in project billing.
- Coordinate with Finance and project teams regarding invoicing, billing, payment follow-up, and outstanding receivables.
- Monitor contract compliance and ensure commercial obligations are fulfilled within agreed terms.
- Maintain accurate records of quotations, contracts, purchase orders, work orders, variations, invoices, and customer correspondence.
- Prepare regular commercial reports and project status updates for management.
- Analyze actual project costs against approved budgets and identify significant cost variances and commercial risks.
- Support management in identifying opportunities for revenue growth, cost optimization, and improved project margins.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers and support the development of new business opportunities.
- Participate in customer meetings, project meetings, tender discussions, and commercial negotiations as required.
- Ensure all commercial activities comply with company policies, procedures, and applicable contractual requirements.
- Supervise and provide guidance to commercial team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in commercial, contract, sales, estimating, or project management roles within a shipyard, shipbuilding, ship repair, marine, offshore, or oil & gas environment.
- Experience in shipyard commercial activities is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of ship repair, dry-docking, newbuilding, or marine project operations.
- Experience preparing and reviewing quotations, tenders, contracts, pricing, and commercial proposals.
- Good understanding of project costing, budgeting, cost control, and margin analysis.
- Experience handling variation orders, additional works, claims, and commercial negotiations.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to interact with customers, shipyards, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good leadership and team coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Willing to travel to shipyard and project locations as required.
