Job summary

CLSA in Hong Kong is seeking a senior engineer to monitor health and performance of institutional trading systems in real time and to proactively resolve issues before they affect trading activity. You will coordinate deployments with QA and development teams and validate changes prior to release.

The role demands deep knowledge of low-latency architecture, High Frequency Trading environments, and proficiency with Linux, scripting (Python, Shell, Perl), Java, SQL, and FIX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
• 15 years or above relevant experience with institutional trading systems and protocols (e.g., FIX protocol, market data APIs)
• In-depth Equities Low Touch Execution Management business knowledge
• Deep knowledge in low latency architecture/framework and experience in High Frequency Trading system
• Strong experience with Linux/Unix environments.
• Skills in scripting languages (Python, Shell, Perl) for automation and monitoring.
• Experience in Java, SQL, FIX message protocol, Chronicle Queue, Linux
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs, DNS).
• Understanding of relational databases (SQL) for operational queries.
• Understanding of securities brokerage workflows: order routing, execution, settlement
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Fluent in English and Mandarin (willing to travel to Shenzhen occasionally will be advantageous)

Responsibilities

• Monitor the health and performance of institutional trading systems in real-time.
• Proactively identify and resolve system issues before they impact trading activity.
• Respond to and resolve production incidents promptly, escalating to development teams when necessary.
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
• Coordinate and execute production deployments, patches, and upgrades with minimal downtime.
• Work with QA and Dev teams to validate changes before release.
• Develop and maintain applications/scripts for monitoring, automation, and operational efficiency.
• Ensure regulatory requirements and internal control standards are met.
• Maintain records of incidents, changes, and operational procedures.
• Liaise between trading desks, technology teams, vendors, and client support teams.
• Provide technical training and guidance to other operational staff
