Job description

We are recruiting 1 Health Visitor. The salary for these roles are equivalent to NHS Band 6

The Health Visiting Service is responsible for delivering the Healthy Child Programme to families in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) and forms part of the Early Help Offer for the 0 to 19 age group. Health visitors are based in one of two localities but will be required to work across the whole borough as the need is required, a hybrid working model is in place with the expectation that staff will be based within the office at least two days a week.

The health Visiting service is provided by Achieving for Children, which is a social enterprise company also responsible for the provision of early help and social care services across RBWM. The health visiting team work out of the family hubs and have positive working relationships with our colleagues in the family hub and social care.

We offer corporate membership as a benefit with the Institute of Health Visiting (iHV) to all our Health Visitors for professional support and evidence-based publications. Achieving for Children as an organisation has a strong ethos for staff training and development and staff wellbeing is a high priority. There are options for flexible working within the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

The Health Visitor will work as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) within the community as a member of the Health Visiting Team. The Health Visitor will offer a comprehensive public health nursing service in accordance with AfCs Health Visiting Standard Operational Procedures and the Public Health England Healthy Child Programme 0-5 years. Duties will include:

Assess each child and family health needs, using the appropriate assessment and risk assessment tools ensuring accurate documentation

Assess child protection concerns in relation to children and young people and to discuss these concerns with colleagues and to take appropriate action in line with the RBWM Safeguarding Partnership guidance

Support the child, young person and family throughout any safeguarding concerns process and to ensure that they are kept informed at all times and actively participate in child protection supervision

Develop and facilitate Health Visiting drop in clinics, health promotion activities and groups

Establish effective working relationships with members of the Primary Health Care Team, Midwives, Children Centres, School Nurses, allied professionals and voluntary agencies

They will assess each child and family health needs, using the appropriate assessment and risk assessment tools and ensure that at each contact with a child an assessment of the health and developmental needs are documented. Actions will include the development and implementation of outcome focused care plans and evaluation of the care given and this is done in partnership with clients.

The Health Visitor will be required to assess child protection concerns in relation to children and young people and to discuss these concerns with colleagues and to take appropriate action in line with the RBWM Safeguarding Partnership guidance. This can include decisions to breach confidentiality where this is in the best interest of the child or young person. The Health Visitor will support the child, young person

and family throughout this process and to ensure that they are kept informed at all times and actively participate in child protection supervision. The Health Visitor will develop and facilitate Health Visiting drop in clinics, health promotion activities and groups. They will provide care according to the available evidence of best practice and support the team in the development of evidence based practice. The post holder will establish effective working relationships with members of the Primary Health Care Team, Midwives, Children Centres, School Nurses, allied professionals and voluntary agencies to achieve the best health and wellbeing outcomes for families and children within the borough.

Qualifications

Educated to a degree level with a relevant professional qualification as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.

RGN/RMH/RMW/ Dip HE (Child/adult/Learning disabilities) and Nursing and Midwifery Council membership. Evidence of continuing professional development.

Knowledge of relevant theory that informs practice delivery for example Health Child Programme

Experience of building strong partnerships, maintaining relationships and co-producing solutions to challenges across a diverse set of stakeholders, including children, young people and their families. Advocating the voices of those we are working with

Proven ability to effectively use data, intelligence and evidence to create meaningful insight and to inform own decision making

Experience of keeping and maintaining records (in accordance with local policy) and producing accurate reports, presentations, written updates to a range of stakeholders (which may include families, children or young people).

Knowledge of statutory legislation (for example Children's Act) and national policy drivers that will affect children's services and your role.

Holds a recognised non-medical Prescriber qualification and to prescribe from the Nurse Prescribers Formulary for Community Practitioners according to agreed protocols and policies.

Attends regular prescribing updates relevant to their practice.
