Job summary
A leading construction recruitment firm is urgently seeking Assistant Buyers to join their commercial team in the Northern Home Counties. The successful candidates will manage procurement processes, liaise with suppliers, and support project needs across various residential developments. With a competitive salary of £25,000 to £65,000, this is a permanent position that offers long-term career progression within a supportive environment. Candidates should have experience in residential construction and strong organisational skills.

Responsibilities
- Conduct take-offs and schedule materials from specifications.
- Manage procurement processes including issuing enquiries and placing orders.
- Negotiate with suppliers to achieve best value.
- Liaise with design teams to manage changes to designs.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
- Support budgeting and cost reporting within the team.
- Identify alternative suppliers to improve efficiency.

Location: Northern Home Counties (office-based, 5 days per week)
Salary: £25,000 – £65,000 per annum (depending on experience)
These roles sit within the commercial team and involve working closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure efficient, timely, and cost-effective procurement across multiple projects.
- Conducting and assisting with take-offs and scheduling of materials and packages from drawings and specifications
- Managing and supporting procurement processes, including issuing enquiries, tender analysis, and placing orders
- Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve best value
- Liaising with design teams to manage design changes and update material schedules
- Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, reliability, and timely delivery
- Supporting cost reporting, budgeting, and forecasting within the commercial team
- Identifying alternative suppliers and materials to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Experience working as an Assistant Buyer or Buyer within residential construction or housebuilding
- Strong understanding of procurement processes, material sourcing, and supply chain management
- Good commercial awareness with strong organisational and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
- Previous experience with a residential developer or housebuilder is highly desirable
