The Investment Programme Management team is responsible for managing Affinity Water’s Capex investment portfolio, as set out in our regulatory Business Plan and statutory Water Resources Management Plan.
A Project Risk Engineer Lead at Affinity Wateris responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with engineering projects to ensure successful project outcomes for our investments. This role combines technical engineering expertise with advanced risk management strategies to safeguard project objectives. Key responsibilities and qualifications typically include:
Principal accountabilities
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential project risks, including technical, financial, and safety-related aspects following scoring and assessment framework.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, contingency plans, and disaster recovery plans to minimize the impact of identified risks on project objectives.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to communicate risk findings and recommend solutions that address identified risks effectively.
- Continuously monitor project risks, update risk management plans as necessary, and provide regular reports to senior management and stakeholders on the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide training and guidance to project team members on risk management processes and best practices, enabling the team to better anticipate and handle potential risks.
- Liaise with the different stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle to ensure adherence to the stage gates processes.
Essential Experience Required
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Risk Management, or a related field is typically required. Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., ARM, CSP, PMP) are preferred.
- Experience in Cost, Planning and Risk management environments. Essential
- Ideally hold or be willing to work towards an appropriate professional body membership or equivalent.
- Experience of working on large projects/programmes.
- Have experience working in construction or project management background within utility sector.
- Experience in implementation of different risk scoring framework within the project management community.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey risk assessments and mitigation plans to stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience in management of large data sets into simple reporting formats.

- Salary £50,000 - 60,000 per annum dependant on experience
- Car allowance £4300 per annum
- Hybrid role, with the expectations of a minimum two days a week in the office in Hatfield
