Overview

The post will be based at the Guy's & St Thomas' sites. The postholder should have an interest in gaining further knowledge and experience in the management of patients with thrombosis and acquired bleeding disorders. There is potential involvement in research to improve management of thrombotic disorders and/or acquired bleeding disorders. The role includes cross-cover responsibilities as needed and is suitable for those considering a career in Haematology in a teaching hospital with a strong national and international reputation.

Main duties

Clinical:

  • Provide thrombosis and acquired bleeding services to Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, including diagnosis and treatment of patients in hospitals, health centres or clinics as required.
  • Maintain continuing clinical responsibility for patients, with appropriate delegation and training of staff.

Training of junior staff:

  • Take responsibility for the training and direction of junior staff allocated under the agreed training plan with the supervising consultant.

Teaching:

  • Contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students where appropriate.
Clinical governance and professional requirements
  • Participate in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, guideline/protocol development and clinical risk management; provide evidence of contribution and audit of clinical work as part of appraisal.
  • Adhere to Mutual Obligation to Monitor Hours and EWTD guidelines; participate in the educational programme and attend relevant educational activities.
  • Undertake appraisal as required; maintain confidentiality and data protection in line with legal requirements; comply with FOI procedures where applicable.
  • Adhere to equal opportunities, health and safety policies, infection control and risk management requirements; participate in safeguarding, sustainability and information governance practices.
Place of employment and team

The post is based at the Guys & St Thomas sites. The Thrombosis and Thrombophilia team provides specialised services including anticoagulant control, high-risk case management (e.g., during pregnancy), and management of acquired bleeding disorders. The team is part of an internationally recognised Centre for Thrombosis and Haemostasis, with collaboration across Haematology, Oncology and related services.
