Procurement Consultant (Category Manager)

The Procurement Consultant role within Altair is part of the Procurement stream, focusing mainly on the housing and local authority sectors, with plans to expand into other sectors such as education, sports, and charities.

About the role:

Line Manager: Head of Procurement

Location: Home working, with travel to clients and offices required

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours, Monday to Friday

This is an excellent opportunity for a procurement professional to apply their skills across diverse projects.

Develop and implement procurement strategies tailored to client requirements and specific spend categories (e.g., repairs & maintenance, planned works, IT, professional services).

Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in a procurement or buying role, ideally with exposure to public sector procurement, Local Authority, or Housing Management Sector.

The main purpose of this role is to manage compliant public procurements and support the development and growth of Procurement as a core service at Altair.

Key objectives of the role include:

• Work with stakeholders at multiple levels within Altair to deliver successful projects for the stream.
• Support procurement services and maximize value through agreed methodologies and approaches with clients.
• Support the delivery of procurement services and tenders, ensuring high standards of quality to maximize client satisfaction, including providing expert advice on complex issues within regulated and restricted markets.
• Manage procurement projects, including deadlines and resource allocation, reporting progress and challenges to the team.
• Enhance the profile of the procurement stream through successful projects, identify new business opportunities, and develop client relationships.
• As the stream grows, opportunities will arise to develop and manage junior consultants.
• Ensure project ownership complies with relevant regulations and standards, especially in the public sector.
• Maintain awareness of market trends and policy changes to adapt working methods and provide proactive client solutions.
• Maximize relationships to generate new opportunities within each client and across all of Altair’s business streams.
