Job description

Do you have a passionate interest in applying economic thinking and analysis to transport, strong communication skills and a problem-solving mindset? Do you enjoy working with teams across different sectors to plan and deliver successful transport strategies and advice that will have a positive impact?

As part of our business case and economics team, you will be joining a team providing advice to a wide range of clients across a range of transport modes and related wider challenges around economic performance, housing delivery, net-zero and place. You will have an interest in developing and applying/overseeing economic techniques and analysis. These will include experience in developing business case analysis in line with the Department's Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG) and include an understanding of and wider economic impacts guidance. You will have experience of leading the development of business cases and other related advice, and of reporting this to senior clients or officials.

Steer works with local and combined authorities, regional authorities, Government and government agencies offering a spectrum of economic advice across business case, funding submissions, evaluation and economic impact analysis. Our advice covers all modes including urban transit, active modes, rail, bus strategy and bus franchising, demand management and roads.

Requirements

Experience/skills:

You will work as part of a team providing solutions to public and private sector clients. This position requires an enthusiastic, hard-working person, who wants to be part of our growing, dynamic team and in this role, tasks are likely to include:

  • Client and stakeholder liaison to understand requirements for the projects
  • Provision of high-quality advice to clients
  • Leading work streams within projects with supervision, ensuring that best practice techniques are applied consistently
  • Preparing and presenting reports, proposals and presentations
  • Manage project budgets exercising effective financial and budgetary control
  • Taking responsibility to specify economic analysis, interpret and review outputs and convey findings tailored as appropriate to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Take key roles in proposal development and actively manage client relationships
  • Develop new relationships through profile raising and other business development activities
  • Taking part in training to develop both your technical and consultancy skills

To be successful in the role, you will:

  • Be comfortable working in creative multi-disciplinary teams and provide positive contributions
  • Demonstrate a strong track record in the field and transport economics and business case development
  • Take responsibility for key tasks and workstreams, managing multiple deadlines in parallel
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven project management/delivery experience in a transport environment
  • Be a team player, able to work collaboratively with colleagues in other disciplines to provide the best solution for the client

Compensation

Steer is committed to ensuring that all its employees are compensated a fair, liveable wage. All initial compensation, regardless of location, may be subject to change as skills, abilities, internal equity and geographic location are taken into account.

In addition to base salary, all employees will be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus. Please review the benefits section for more information on total reward.

Steer reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional compensation.

Work Environment

All Steer employees seeking a full-time opportunity are encouraged to spend 40% of their time either in office or on-site with clients. An employee's typical work week consists of 40 hours (Hours, expectations, and exemption status will be adjusted for any applicant seeking a part-time opportunity.)
