Murphy is recruiting for a Principal Engineer - Temporary Works to work with Murphy Applied Engineering in Scotland.

Our engineering teams represent a multi-disciplined range of skills, adding value across sectors, and pushing the boundaries of digital construction, engineering innovation, and design to deliver sustainable and economical solutions.

In this role, you will provide safe, economic, and constructible solutions within project timeframes for the company’s Business Units, supporting key UK projects such as SSEN’s ASTI Pathway to 2030 and other infrastructure projects.

A day in the life of a Murphy Principal Engineer - Temporary Works
  1. Act as the Project Design Engineer on multiple projects, serving as the central contact and coordinator.
  2. Maintain knowledge of client requirements, specifications, design codes, and industry best practices.
  3. Be responsible for the technical and commercial delivery of assigned projects.
  4. Prepare and manage cost proposals for tenders and live projects.
  5. Lead a small temporary works team and foster relationships with project managers and directors.
  6. Expand the internal order book and deliver projects across the UK.
  7. Mentor junior staff and graduates.
  8. Visit sites as appropriate.
  9. Gather feedback and contribute to lessons learned.
  10. Collaborate with other Principal Engineers to develop the department.
