We are inviting applicants to join our busy but welcoming neonatal service as a Clinical Fellow, based at the Leeds General Infirmary and St James University Hospital in West Yorkshire. This role is suitable for applicants at ST6+ / Registrar (middle grade level) with experience in neonatology. It is ideally suited to candidates wishing to work in a large teaching hospital which provides many specialist services and is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in neonates.

The post holder will participate in a rolling full shift rota at Tier 2 and be involved in covering all aspects of inpatient care including long day ward cover and night shifts. This will involve delivering care to babies in the intensive care, high dependency, and special care areas. In addition, there will be opportunities to take part in departmental audit and governance projects.

There will also be the opportunity to deliver outpatient follow-up clinics at Leeds General Infirmary. In addition, they will be expected to lead service development projects with oversight from the clinical lead.

Applicants should have established skills in Neonatal Medicine and experience in paediatric outpatient follow-up. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

To assist in delivering the induction and training programme for junior doctors.

To provide outpatient follow-up clinics at LGI.

To liaise with the neonatal outreach team and child development centre to provide planned discharge and follow-up of neonatal graduates.

Depending on any subspecialty area of interest, it may be possible to extend the remit of the post.

To lead service development projects and participate actively in unit meetings.

The Leeds Regional Neonatal Service comprises one level 3 unit (NICU) at LGI and a level 1 unit (SCBU) at SJUH, each with a transitional care unit and attached to a busy delivery suite. The neonatal service is one of the busiest in the country with 1,700 admissions per year, providing 4,000 intensive care days and a further 4,000 high dependency care days annually. There are approximately 10,000 deliveries across the two sites.

We care for babies of all gestations from 22 weeks and upwards with a range of medical, surgical, and cardiac pathologies. Leeds is a regional unit for babies with complex surgical, neurosurgical, renal, and hepatic problems, and is a supra-regional unit for babies with congenital heart disease.

The LGI NNU cares for the full range of medical neonatal intensive care. There are 24 cots on NNU, including 13 ICU and 10 surgical. Our St James's NNU has 18 cots.

Duties of the post include participating in a rolling full shift rota at Tier 2, covering inpatient care, outpatient clinics, liaising with outreach teams, leading service development projects, and participating in unit meetings. The post holder will participate in the middle grade on-call rota, equivalent to ST3+.

Teaching, research, and training responsibilities include contributing to undergraduate teaching, engaging in audit and research activities, and possibly obtaining instructor status in advanced life support courses.

• Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, evidenced by undergraduate training in English, IELTS, or OET scores, or alternative evidence.
• At least 8 years' experience after full GMC registration, including core competencies in paediatric medicine, and experience in a tertiary Neonatal Unit.
• Competency in neonatal procedures such as intubation and central line insertion.
• Experience in research, audit, and teaching with evidence of academic achievements and involvement in quality improvement projects.

• Eligible for GMC registration and holding a license to practice

• Newborn Life Support Certificate or equivalent
• NLS Instructor qualification
