Our aim is to provide a high‑quality service whilst empowering and including patients in their care to achieve the best in everything we do now and in the future.

Our Trust values and vision guide how we deliver care across the Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which serves a population of over 600,000 with a workforce of over 9,000 across 21 sites. We strive to ensure all communities have access to Five Star Patient Care.

  • Supervise junior staff and learners.
  • Understand and demonstrate the Trust values at all times.
  • Participate in the rotation between day and night shifts and be flexible in approach to caring for a number of patients.
Clinical Skills and Professional Practice
  • Plan and organise a defined caseload of patients on an ongoing basis and assess, plan, implement/deliver and evaluate patient care for a defined caseload, recognising signs of deterioration and responding according to protocol.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of training for clinical skills within scope of practice.
  • Maintain safe custody of drugs, ensuring that checking, witnessing and administration procedures comply with statutory and Trust requirements.
  • Respond to complaints/concerns in the absence of senior staff and escalate as required.
  • Ensure clinical incidents/near misses are managed, reported and escalated in a timely manner.
  • Be part of the multidisciplinary team decision making and act as the patient advocate to support the patient pathway.
  • Work within organisational policies, standard operating procedures and guidelines.
  • Undertake risk assessments and implement risk reducing measures; report any deficiencies to the Line Manager.

  • Handle patient valuables with safe storage and transportation.
  • Sign off agency timesheets to verify and record hours worked.
  • Co‑ordinate with the Roster Coordinator to balance personal roster within the roster period.
  • Order and receipt of goods in accordance with the Trust’s financial framework.

  • Depone in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse.
  • Manage own time and that of others, through delegation, to ensure high quality service delivery.
  • Act as assessor/supervisor for junior staff and students.
  • Participate in setting yearly personal and professional objectives and support appraisal processes for junior staff.
  • Be flexible in delivering safe staffing across the Trust and participate in redeployment within scope of practice.
