Job description
About Bristow and Sutor Group

Bristow and Sutor Group are leaders in the debt recovery enforcement sector with over 40 years of operation, supporting hundreds of local authorities and Transport for London. We have a strong UK team, employing just over 500 people across the country. We are committed to building a culture where everyone has the opportunity to do meaningful work and be recognised and rewarded for their efforts.

About the Team and Role

We are seeking a talented Solution Architect to join our software development team, supporting complex debt resolution solutions that span the private and public sector. You will help shape and implement technical solutions across a platform that includes a variety of case management systems, and our bespoke modular application, CollecTed, built using a microservice architecture on Azure Cloud.

This is a hands-on architectural role, responsible for overseeing solution design, maintaining delivery integrity, and guiding the team in creating scalable, secure, and maintainable systems. You will report directly to the Group Head of Software Development and may support a leadership capacity during periods of absence, which may lead to future opportunities for progression.

Job Details

Pay: £75,000 p/a

Full time 37.5 hours per week.

Permanent

Location: Based in UK – remote, (with travel for essential workshops or collaboration)

What you’ll do
  • Own and evolve end-to-end solution architecture for multiple core systems.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to deliver technical solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Design and document integration patterns involving third-party APIs and Apache Kafka messaging pipelines.
  • Translate functional requirements into robust and scalable technical architectures, particularly for our CollecTed platform which includes:
  • Our modular, microservice-based bespoke application hosted in Azure
  • Dealing with technical challenges where legacy applications need to be carefully negotiated and considered.
  • Ensure architectural governance, consistency, and alignment across projects.
  • Engage in Agile ceremonies and help embed architectural considerations into sprint delivery.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, tools, and platforms where appropriate.
Requirements

Skills and competencies we are looking for:

  • Strong experience in a solution-oriented architect role, with a delivery mindset, and technical depth.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement, bridging business needs with technical design.
  • Experience in confidently leading architectural conversations across diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven experience as a Solution Architect or in a similar senior design role.
  • Strong background in transactional systems and complex integration landscapes.
  • Proven expertise with:
    • Cloud-based systems, ideally Azure
    • API integration (RESTful, SOAP) and event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka)
    • Modern software design practices, including microservices and modular systems
  • Understanding of one or more of the following
    • Bespoke systems and component-based architectures (centered around Azure)
    • Case management type systems
  • Comfortable working in Agile environments and promoting best practices across development lifecycles.
  • Proven experience of working in a dynamic, fast paced environment where collaboration, teamwork and support are an integral part of the job.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and work at pace.
  • Comfortable with working autonomously, problem solving with the ability to act with urgency, making logical decisions and owning these.
  • Strong communication skills, able to articulate technical content in a clear and concise manner.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships, rapport and teamwork.
  • Positive attitude: self-motivated to deliver positive outcomes with the drive to continuously improve results
  • Preferable but not essential:
    • Experience with public sector or regulated environments
    • Certifications in Azure
Benefits
  • Purposeful work: Deliver systems that improve public sector engagement and support individuals in managing financial obligations
  • Growth opportunity: Be part of strategic initiatives and influence platform direction
  • Flexibility: Work remotely
  • Collaborative culture: Report directly to a Group Head who encourages open challenge and innovation
  • Company pension
  • Colleague perks scheme
  • Christmas savings scheme
  • Free on-site parking
  • Death in service benefit
  • Hastee pay, (access to salary before payday)
  • Free fruit and drink at all sites
  • Employee assistance programme
