Job summary

Intellectual Capital Resources Ltd in Cambridge is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design Zephyr-based embedded software for RF and communications products. You will work across bare-metal firmware, embedded Linux and secure communications, collaborating with RF, FPGA and hardware engineers from prototype to volume manufacture.

Hybrid working in Cambridge is offered. Strong C/C++ skills, experience with CAN/SPI/I2C/UART, and hands-on debugging with oscilloscopes and logic

Qualifications

• Experience in low-level embedded software and firmware development with Zephyr.
• Strong C/C++ programming skills optimized for resource-constrained systems.
• Experience with prototype board bring-up and hardware/software integration.
• Experience with CAN, SPI, I2C, UART and RS422 interfaces.
• Practical debugging skills with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and related tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop Zephyr-based embedded software and firmware for RF/communications.
• Collaborate with RF, FPGA and hardware engineers across the development lifecycle.
• Prototype development, bring-up, debugging, and transitioning to volume manufacture.
• Contribute to secure communications and firmware updates knowledge would be advantageous.

An innovative technology company is expanding its software engineering team in Cambridge, developing advanced RF and communications products for telecommunications, space and defence applications.

This is a hands-on role focused on Zephyr-based embedded development, with opportunities to work across bare-metal firmware, embedded Linux and secure communications. You’ll collaborate closely with RF, FPGA and hardware engineers, contributing to products throughout the full development lifecycle, from prototype development through to volume manufacture.

For this Senior Embedded Software Engineer role, we are looking for someone with:

• Strong experience developing low-level embedded software and firmware using Zephyr
• Excellent C/C++ programming skills, including optimisation for resource-constrained systems
• Experience with prototype board bring-up, hardware/software integration and debugging
• Experience with embedded communication interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I²C, UART and RS422
• Strong practical debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analysers and software tools
• Experience with embedded Linux, Yocto, bare-metal firmware or other RTOS platforms would be beneficial
• Knowledge of secure communications, authentication, encryption or secure firmware updates would be advantageous
