Job summary

KO2 Embedded Recruitment Solutions Ltd is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer with deep Zephyr RTOS expertise for a Cambridge role offering hybrid work-from-home arrangements. The package is highly competitive with a base salary in the £80,000–£85,000 range and visa sponsorship plus relocation support.

You’ll architect and maintain production firmware on Zephyr, lead prototype bring-up, and design robust interfaces across CAN, SPI, I2C, UART and RS422 while working closely with hardware

Qualifications

• Substantial commercial experience of low level embedded software and firmware.
• Strong Zephyr RTOS experience (hands-on, production firmware).
• Solid C and C++, with performance optimization for constrained hardware.
• Ability to read schematics and datasheets; board bring up experience.
• Proven hardware-to-software integration and debugging capabilities.
• Ability to articulate work clearly in writing and verbally.

Responsibilities

• Architecting and developing embedded firmware on Zephyr RTOS, with some bare metal work.
• Bringing up prototype boards from power-on with debugger, scope and logic analyser.
• Designing and maintaining board-to-board interfaces: CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, RS422.
• Building networked services and interfaces including REST APIs, SNMP, OpenAPI specs.
• Developing and debugging TCP/UDP layers and optimizing protocol performance.
• Ensuring secure communications: authentication, encryption, secure firmware updates, hardening.
• Embedded Linux work on Yocto-based platforms: services, daemons, drivers, middleware.
• Leading root cause analysis and writing clear requirements and specs.
• Collaborating with hardware and systems engineers to ensure solid interfaces.
