Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Youth Support Coach for a secondary school in Chepstow, South Wales. You will work with students aged 11–16 in the Specialist Resource Base (SRB), offering personalised support to help them engage with learning and develop confidence.

In a collaborative, nurturing environment, you’ll partner with teaching and pastoral teams to remove barriers to achievement and promote well-being for every pupil.

Qualifications

• Experience in youth work, care, sports, mentoring or coaching.
• Ability to support ALN or behaviour needs.
• Calm, patient and approachable under pressure.
• Understands emotional and social needs of young people.

Responsibilities

• Support SRB and mainstream learners to access learning.
• Help create a safe, inclusive school environment in collaboration with staff.
• Provide individual and group support addressing academic and emotional needs.

About the Role

We’re looking for a full-time Youth Support Coach to join a welcoming secondary school, supporting students aged 11–16. You’ll play a vital role in helping students feel safe, understood, and ready to engage in learning — working closely with teaching and pastoral teams to create a positive and inclusive school environment.

You’ll be working alongside the school’s Specialist Resource Base (SRB), supporting students with additional learning needs through a mix of mainstream access and specialist provision. Support is personalised and rooted in person-centred practice, focusing on identifying barriers and helping students thrive both academically and emotionally.

The SRB supports learners with a wide range of needs, including:

• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
• Severe learning difficulties
• Speech, language and communication needs
• Physical or medical needs

Is This You?

We’re keen to hear from applicants who:

• Have experience in youth work, care, sports, mentoring, coaching, or similar roles
• Are confident supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or behaviour needs
• Can remain calm, patient, and approachable in challenging situations
• Understand the emotional and social needs of young people
• Genuinely care about helping students succeed — academically and personally

Requirements

Teaching Personnel can support you in obtaining:

• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
• An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
• Two professional references covering 24 months
• You must be 18 years or older
