Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Behaviour Support Officer to join a partner secondary school in Pontypool, South Wales. The role focuses on 1:1 and small group support for pupils with ALN and behavioural needs, helping them stay engaged and confident in the classroom.

Hours are 8:30am–3:30pm with a pay rate of £14.25 per hour, for the full academic year. This role offers valuable classroom experience and CPD opportunities within a supportive school environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience could include, but is not limited to: Education, Coaching, Sports, Youth work, Care & Support work, Mentoring or Tutoring, Camp leading, or ANY other transferable experience and qualifications you can confidently demonstrate at interview.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and behavioural challenges.
  • Support students who find traditional classroom settings difficult with consistent emotional and academic backing.
  • Assist in keeping pupils focused, engaged and motivated during lessons.

About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Behaviour Support Officer to join one of our partner secondary schools in the Pontypool area.

As a Behaviour Support Officer, you'll play a vital role in building strong, positive relationships with students-acting as a trusted guide and communicator to ensure they feel understood and supported. You'll work closely with pupils who need additional help to stay focused, engaged, and motivated in lessons. By being a positive role model, you'll help them overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence to reach their full potential. Some students may simply need extra encouragement to thrive in the classroom.

In this role, you'll provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and behavioural challenges. You'll work with students who may find traditional classroom settings difficult, offering consistent emotional and academic support throughout the school day.

As you will be supporting young people, we will require applicants which have experience in some capacity.

The ideal candidate will also require the following: (We can help you obtain the below as part of the registration process)

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service
  • Education Workforce Regulation registration (EWC)
  • Aged 18 and over
  • Level 2 Safeguarding course (completed as part of your onboarding)
  • 2 professional based references which cover a 24-month period (or equivalent)
