Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Newport, South Wales is seeking a Behaviour Support Mentor for the upcoming academic year. The role focuses on supporting pupils with ALN, delivering 1:1 and small group interventions, and helping students regulate emotions to build lasting positive behaviours.

You will work with school staff to monitor pupil progress, create engaging learning experiences and develop leadership skills. The position offers a full academic year contract and site-based hours.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with ALN, SEN or SEMH.
  • Experience delivering 1:1 and small group interventions.
  • Familiarity with PRUs, alternative provisions or specialist settings.
  • Experience in education, care, mental health or youth-work environments.

Job description

Location: Newport, South Wales
Pay Rate: From £90+ per day
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Full Academic Year

Join us as a Behaviour Support Assistant this academic year!

Kick-start the new academic year as a Behaviour Support Mentor in one of our welcoming secondary schools across Newport!

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will:
  • Support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
  • Provide 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Help students regulate emotions and develop positive behaviours
  • Build confidence, resilience, and engagement with learning
  • Work closely with teaching staff to support pupil progress

There may also be opportunities to support or cover pre-planned lessons during staff absence, ideal for those looking to progress into teaching, take on more responsibility or even boost confidence. This offers valuable experience in classroom management, behaviour support, and leading learning, helping to build confidence and develop key leadership skills.

Desired Experience
  • Behaviour support, mentoring, coaching, or youth work
  • SEN, SEMH, ALN, or additional support needs
  • PRUs, alternative provisions, secure units, or specialist settings
  • Education, care, mental health, or criminal justice settings
  • Teaching Assistant, Classroom Support, or Cover Supervisor roles
Educator Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • EWC registration
  • Age 18+
  • Level 2 Safeguarding training (provided during onboarding)
  • Minimum of 2 professional references covering 24 months
