Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Trainee Teaching Assistant for a secondary school in Monmouthshire. The role supports students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and involves one-to-one or small group work, behaviour management, and building strong relationships with pupils and staff.

Training and registration with the EWC and Enhanced DBS are part of the path. Ideal candidates bring enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

  • Aged 18 or older.
  • Backgrounds in education, youth work, support work, sports coaching, mentoring, etc.
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) or willingness to register (at your own cost).
  • Two professional references covering the last 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in the classroom and assist with ALN provision.
  • Help pupils stay focused, confident and engaged in learning.
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support where needed.
  • Learn and apply behaviour management strategies.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive school environment.

Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Supporting students in the classroom and assisting with the school’s Additional Learning Needs (ALN) provision
  • Helping pupils stay focused, confident, and engaged in their learning

  • Learning and applying behaviour management strategies

  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service — or a willingness to obtain one (at your own cost)
  • Level 2 Safeguarding training
