Job description

Do you have experience supporting young people and a genuine passion for helping them overcome barriers and reach their potential?

We are working with a supportive and inclusive SEMH provision in Stockport that is looking for compassionate, resilient, and committed individuals to join their team and make a genuine difference to the lives of young people.

The pupils you will support may experience anxiety, ADHD, trauma, attachment difficulties, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, and behaviours that challenge. Many have faced significant barriers both inside and outside of education and require adults who are patient, consistent, understanding, and willing to see the person behind the behaviour.

The Role

As a Youth Mentor, you will provide personalised one-to-one and small-group support, helping pupils develop confidence, emotional resilience, positive behaviours, and the skills they need to engage successfully with education. You will work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where pupils feel understood, supported, and able to succeed.

Your Responsibilities
  • Build positive, trusting, and meaningful relationships with pupils.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring and pastoral support.
  • Help young people develop strategies for emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Support pupils during lessons, breaktimes, and structured activities.
  • Implement individual behaviour support plans and targeted interventions.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.
  • Help create a calm, safe, and inclusive environment where every young person feels valued.

You will ideally be:
  • Patient, calm, and resilient, even in challenging situations.
  • A confident communicator who can build strong relationships.
  • Comfortable supporting young people with challenging behaviour.
  • Empathetic and able to understand the needs behind a young person's behaviour.
  • Passionate about giving young people the encouragement and opportunities they need to thrive.
Why This Role?

If you're looking for a role where what you do genuinely matters, this could be the opportunity for you.

You'll have the chance to work alongside experienced education and pastoral professionals while developing your own skills and experience in SEMH support.

If you're passionate about supporting young people and ready to make a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.
