Job summary

Engage Education is seeking a Youth Mentor for a Secondary School in Oldham. The role focuses on guiding students with diverse needs aged 11-17, including those with Autism, Learning Difficulties, or SEMH. You will work beyond the classroom, providing individualized support and collaborating with teachers and families.

The position requires empathy, patience, and strong communication. DBS enhanced clearance is mandatory, and the role is site-based with a supportive team network.

Qualifications

• Empathy and patience when supporting diverse learners.
• Experience working with students with autism, learning difficulties or SEMH is valued.
• Strong communication and ability to collaborate with teachers and parents.

Responsibilities

• Mentor students one-on-one to support academic, social and emotional growth.
• Collaborate with teachers to keep students engaged during lessons.
• Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques for behaviour guidance.
• Assist EHCP plans and tailor support to individual needs.
• Lead group activities to boost self-esteem and social skills.
• Coordinate with families and multidisciplinary teams for holistic support.
• Create a safe, inclusive environment prioritising wellbeing.
• Provide calm crisis support when students are distressed.
