Job summary

Teaching Personnel seeks a Youth Intervention Support Worker in Salford to assist students aged 11-16 with SEMH needs. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, act as a positive role model, and help pupils engage with education while managing emotions.

The role requires resilient, empathetic individuals with strong communication skills and a commitment to safeguarding. Experience with SEMH/SEND, trauma-informed approaches, and a willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS are valued.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural, or social needs.
  • Backgrounds in youth work, mentoring, coaching, residential care, education, support work, social care, or similar sectors are desirable.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A resilient, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches is advantageous.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced DBS via Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Willingness to be proactive and adaptable in supporting students.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH and additional needs.
  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor for young people.
  • Building strong, professional relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and attendance.
  • Supporting students with behaviour regulation and emotional wellbeing.
  • Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Implementing behaviour support strategies and individual support plans.
  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours using positive interventions.
  • Encouraging the development of social, communication, and life skills.
  • Supporting students during breaktimes, enrichment activities, and educational visits.
  • Recording progress, behaviour incidents, and safeguarding concerns where appropriate.
