Job summary

Tilbury Douglas offers a year-out placement for students in Civil/Structural/Building Services Engineering or Construction Management. You will join a live project team, gain hands-on experience on site and develop skills across planning, safety, quality, and commercial considerations.

You’ll work on site within the Regional Building team in the Yorkshire region, with flexibility to travel between project sites. Mentoring and diverse project exposure support your development.

Qualifications

• Currently studying towards a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management or related built environment.
• Full UK driving licence, or working towards one by Feb 2027.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a practical and logical approach.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• A collaborative mindset with eagerness to learn and take responsibility.
• Previous placement or site experience is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day management of site operations to ensure safety and alignment with the project programme.
• Develop understanding of how construction and engineering are delivered safely and to standards.
• Contribute to setting out, surveying and engineering control activities on site.
• Support preparation of method statements, risk assessments, inspections and quality documentation.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site teams; attend planning and progress meetings.
