Job summary

Tilbury Douglas is offering a site-based Summer Placement for students pursuing Civil/Structural/Building Services Engineering or Construction Management. You’ll work with site teams across the South & South West regional projects, gaining hands-on exposure to engineering and construction management on a live project.

You’ll learn from experienced professionals, develop practical skills, and support safety, quality and delivery on site, while applying university learning to real-world project

Qualifications

• Studying towards a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management or related built environment discipline.
• A full UK driving licence, or be working towards obtaining one by February 2027.
• Strong problem-solving with practical and logical approach.
• Good written and verbal communication skills for a wide range of people.
• A collaborative mindset with willingness to learn and take responsibility.
• Previous placement or site experience is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day management of site operations to deliver works safely and on programme.
• Develop understanding of how construction and engineering work is carried out safely and to standards.
• Contribute to setting out, surveying and engineering control on site.
• Support preparation and review of method statements, risk assessments and quality docs.
• Observe and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Attend planning meetings and progress reviews to understand scheduling.
• Support site logistics, temporary works and sequencing of activities.
• Work with design, commercial and operations teams to resolve technical challenges.
• Produce and maintain accurate site records, reports and documentation.
• Develop understanding of commercial processes and how decisions affect delivery.
• Gain exposure to modern construction methods, sustainability and digital tools.
• Build relationships with project teams, clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
