Job summary

Aspire People is recruiting a Year 5 SEND HLTA to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Druids Heath, Birmingham. You will support pupils with additional needs in a Year 5 class, delivering targeted interventions and 1:1 sessions to boost academic progress and confidence.

You’ll work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo, delivering behaviour and emotional regulation strategies while maintaining calm, structured boundaries.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an HLTA, Senior Teaching Assistant or experienced SEND Teaching Assistant.
• Strong experience supporting children with additional needs.
• Confident delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions.
• Experience supporting behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Able to confidently take pupils out of class and deliver structured learning activities.
• Calm, patient and consistent approach.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Able to work effectively alongside the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school team.
• Experience within a mainstream primary school is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs within a mainstream Year 5 classroom.
• Delivering targeted learning and SEND interventions.
• Taking individual pupils or small groups out of class for focused intervention sessions.
• Supporting pupils with their academic development and confidence.
• Delivering behavioural and emotional regulation interventions.
• Helping pupils develop strategies to manage behaviour and engage positively with learning.
• Working closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to identify and respond to individual needs.
• Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
• Helping to create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment.
• Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to the teaching team.
