Job summary

Aspire People is seeking an experienced Year 5 SEND HLTA for a welcoming mainstream primary school in Druids Heath, Birmingham. The role focuses on delivering targeted SEND interventions and supporting pupils with additional needs within a Year 5 class.

The ideal candidate will have strong SEND experience, be confident with 1:1 and small-group work, and capable of maintaining calm, structured learning environments while collaborating closely with the class teacher and SENDCo.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as an HLTA, Senior Teaching Assistant or experienced SEND Teaching Assistant
• Strong experience supporting children with additional needs
• Confident delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions
• Experience supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
• Able to confidently take pupils out of class and deliver structured learning activities
• Calm, patient and consistent in their approach
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Able to work effectively alongside the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school team
• Experience within a mainstream primary school is highly desirable

Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs within a mainstream Year 5 classroom
• Delivering targeted learning and SEND interventions
• Taking individual pupils or small groups out of class for focused intervention sessions
• Supporting pupils with their academic development and confidence
• Delivering behavioural and emotional regulation interventions
• Helping pupils develop strategies to manage behaviour and engage positively with learning
• Working closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to identify and respond to individual needs
• Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom
• Helping to create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment
• Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to the teaching team
