Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Wellbeing and Pastoral Support Assistant for secondary schools across Durham, with positions available immediately. This is a broad pastoral role — distinct from SEMH support or behaviour mentoring — focused on the general wellbeing of students across the school and providing early, accessible support before issues escalated.

You’ll be a visible, approachable presence within the school community, working across year groups to check in with students, support those going through difficult periods, and act as a first point of contact for young people who need someone to talk to. It's a role that rewards warmth, consistency, and genuine care for young people's overall experience of school.

What the role involves:

• Providing pastoral support and wellbeing check-ins for students across KS3 and KS4
• Acting as an approachable first point of contact for students experiencing personal difficulties
• Supporting form tutors and heads of year with pastoral responsibilities
• Monitoring student attendance, engagement, and wellbeing on a day to day basis
• Liaising with the SENCO, pastoral team, and external agencies where appropriate
• Contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture
• Upholding safeguarding responsibilities at all times

What we're looking for:

• Experience in a pastoral, support, or youth work role
• A warm, empathetic, and genuinely student-focused approach
• Ability to build trusting relationships with young people quickly and naturally
• Strong communication skills across students, staff, and families
• Relevant qualifications in youth work, counselling, or education are desirable
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
