Qualifications

An experienced MIG/Aluminum TIG Welder is required to join a high performing team at our Solotech. The MIG/TIG Welder will be working alongside the Solotech manufacturing department, who manufacture and distribute flight cases and transit cases for the transportation and storage of any delicate hi-tech equipment. Our aluminum products are welded to a raw finish and are comprised of smaller assemblies being welded to a larger frame using different profiles and thicknesses. All welds must be of high quality and aesthetically correct. All products have set welding times which need to be adhered to.

Also included in the role will be as a Fabrications Technician when required, this part of the role will be to assists with the building of our flight cases, full training and support will be given for this secondary part of the role.

The successful candidate will be an active member of a production team specialising in the manufacture of flight cases for the transportation of equipment within the entertainment industry. Full training and support will be given for the secondary part of the role.

Your day will look like:
  • Reading technical drawings and cutting lists to cut Steel and Aluminium to length.
  • Welding in both TIG and MIG formats, to a high standard within short timeframes.
  • Welding OEM and custom products in both mild steel and aluminium to a high-quality adhering to time frames.
  • To maintain and promote safe working practices within the department, including the correct operation of tools and equipment and use of PPE.
  • To assist with monitoring stock levels and working with managers to re-order where necessary.
  • To ensure the welding room is maintained to a clean and organised and standard.
  • To identify improvements to processes and procedures through continuous improvement and close liaison with managers, identify ways to improve cost effectiveness and where appropriate, generate income.
  • The role may be required to assist, or cover for, other roles within the operation for which full training / support will be given.
  • Maintenance of welding room equipment and machinery.
  • To work in a clean and tidy manner leaving you workspace clear and tidy at the end of shift.
  • Assist with the unloading and storage of incoming materials.
  • Ensure end of shift shutdown procedures are carried out.
  • Assisting with the assembly and manufacture of flight cases, using a variety of wood/metal working skills and equipment. air drills, riveters, wall saw, table saw, general power and battery tools will all be used.
  • Responsible for safe working practices within the department, including the correct operation of tools, equipment and the use of guards and safety clothing.
  • Assist with the unloading and storage of incoming materials.
  • Any other reasonable tasks including ad-hoc requests as required by your manager.
Level of education:
  • Minimum of GCSE level (or equivalent) or relevant work experience.
Work experience:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a welder.
Essential skills / experience:
  • Extensive MIG/Aluminum TIG Welding experience
  • Experience of welding and fabricating from design drawings
  • Essential experience of hand/power tools, pillar drills, Steel and Aluminum saws, grinding equipment and milling machinery.
  • Experience of following technical drawings unaided.
  • Essential working to accurate measurements to within 0.5mm
  • Experience of the use of a range materials, profiles and thickness
  • Keen interest in fabrication in product such as raw ply, laminated ply and aluminium
  • The ability to read and understand design drawings.
  • Willingness and ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong communication skills.
Desirable Skills / Experience
  • NVQ level 2 – 3 in welding, fabricating
  • Being Coded would be an advantage
Essential requirements:
  • Full Clean UK Driving License
  • Right to work and remain in the UK
