Job summary

Oxford Brookes University is seeking a Web and Digital Communications Manager based at Headington Campus with hybrid working. You will oversee the University's main website, student portal and staff intranet, leading a team of five digital specialists.

You will report to the Deputy Head of Strategic Marketing and Communications, driving the web transformation, governance, accessibility (WCAG), and ensuring effective vendor management and budget control.

Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent significant professional experience.
  • Extensive experience managing large, complex websites and CMS (Contensis ideal).
  • Proven track record in digital project delivery and UX.
  • Strong technical background in website architecture and WCAG accessibility.
  • Leadership with vendor and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the University's main website (Brookes.ac.uk), new Student Experience portal, and staff intranet.
  • Leading a team of five web, digital, and user experience specialists.
  • Stewarding the ongoing web transformation project and Contensis implementation.
  • Setting and upholding digital governance, QA, brand standards, and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility compliance.
  • Managing vendor relationships, SLAs, third-party contracts, and the Customer and Channels budget (c. £200,000).
  • Collaborating with Information Services on system security, data integration, and platform architecture.

The role

Based at our Headington Campus (with hybrid working), you will report to the Deputy Head of Strategic Marketing and Communications - Marketing and Digital. You will oversee the delivery, governance, and management of the University's main website, student portal, and staff intranet, while managing a team of digital specialists.

About the team:

The Strategic Marketing and Communications team sits within the Directorate of Marketing, Recruitment and Engagement, driving Oxford Brookes' global profile, strategic student recruitment, and brand reputation. The team oversees digital channels, user experience, and content strategy, working with stakeholders across the University and external vendors. You will directly manage a team of five specialists covering web content, design accessibility, analytics, and digital experience projects.

What will I be doing?
  • Managing the University's main website (Brookes.ac.uk), new Student Experience portal, and staff intranet.
  • Leading a team of five web, digital, and user experience specialists.
  • Stewarding the ongoing web transformation project and implementation of the Contensis content management system.
  • Setting and upholding digital governance, quality assurance, brand standards, and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility compliance.
  • Managing vendor relationships, SLAs, third-party contracts, and the Customer and Channels budget (c. £200,000).
  • Collaborating with Information Services on system security, data integration, and platform architecture.
What skills do I need?
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent significant professional experience.
  • Extensive experience managing large, complex websites and content management systems (ideally Contensis).
  • Proven track record in digital project delivery, user experience (UX), and digital channel optimisation.
  • Strong technical background in website architecture, accessibility standards (WCAG), and search/AI visibility.
  • Strong leadership and line management skills, with experience managing vendor and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time-management skills.
