Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Refuse Team Lead based at Tyne Mills Depot, Hexham. The role focuses on deploying staff and vehicles to ensure timely refuse collection and recycling services, while directing front line teams and promoting service standards.

The successful candidate will lead a team, manage inductions and safety training, and coordinate rounds for bulky and garden waste, ensuring efficient delivery and good customer care.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to lead a front line team and coordinate resources effectively.
• Strong planning and scheduling skills to meet service standards.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with staff and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Assist in determining the deployment of staff and vehicles to ensure refuse collection and recycling services meet time, quality, and service standards.
• Direct and supervise a team of front line refuse collection staff with clear guidance and motivation to achieve objectives.
• Contribute to induction, risk assessment, training and development of staff as coach and mentor.
• Schedule refuse collection rounds for bulky waste, garden waste, and recycling centres in line with procedures.
• Promote constructive employee relations within the team.
