Job summary

Swindon Borough Council is seeking a Waste Collector to join the team. You will visit and collect refuse and recycling from 1000+ properties a day, maintaining high standards and promoting recycling to reach 50% participation.

The role involves physical and repetitive work, with a strong emphasis on safety and awareness of surroundings for public and team welfare.

Qualifications

  • Experience of collecting and recycling waste materials.
  • Appreciation and understanding of Health and Safety.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Ability to follow straightforward policies and procedures.
  • Be available to work bank holidays (excluding Christmas and Boxing Day).
  • Able to work in the various conditions.

Please note: 3.3% national pay award increase to be applied in October

37 hours per week

Your next role

As a Waste Collector, you’ll visit and collect refuse and recycling from upwards of 1000 properties per day. You’ll maintain a high standard in the collection of domestic waste and recycling, as well as promote recycling to encourage participation to achieve 50%.

The role demands a high amount of physical and repetitive working. You will need to always be fully aware of your surroundings, to ensure the wellbeing of members of the public around you as well as team members.

What you’ll need
  • Experience of collecting and recycling waste materials
  • Appreciation and understanding of Health and Safety
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills
  • Ability to follow straightforward policies and procedures
  • Be available to work bank holidays (excluding Christmas and Boxing Day)
  • Able to work in the various conditions (see role profile for details)

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
