Job description

We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Ward Manager for Ward F Neath Port Talbot Hospital. The post holder will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse, with experience of working with patients with mental health issues, complex needs with a recovery focused philosophy.

The successful candidate will be required to work Monday - Friday, however may also include shift work outside of core hours when service demand is required.

Ward F is an acute adult assessment ward providing multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment for patients at the acute stages of their recovery journey prior to further treatment and recovery within other areas of the mental health services within SBUHB.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the Operational, Clinical, Performance and Governance Management of Ward F. This will entail effectively managing the nursing services and resources within the Ward. This is inclusive of managing the daily functioning of the ward, responsibility for all staff management, resource allocation, modernisation and development of the workforce.

The Ward Manager will lead, co-ordinate and contribute to the delivery of a quality service for patients and their families or carers, by the setting of standards and providing continued responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, via the nursing and Multi- Disciplinary Team which are coherent, consistently applied and in line with Operational Policies.

The Ward Manager will be a source of expert knowledge, taking an active role in the education, development, appraisal, supervision and support of the workforce within the ward. The individual will deploy nursing staff with responsibility for both the recruitment and retention of the workforce.

The Ward Manager will ensure nursing care is carried out in line with the Clinical Governance and Quality and Safety agenda both locally, in line with the Service Group and the wider Health Boards agenda and ensure excellent quality care is provided to our patients.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Registered Nurse (Part 1) - Active NMC Registration
  • Bachelor degree in relevant health related subject (or equivalent experience)
  • Knowledge and understanding of current policy and issues in professional pratice, complaince, professional standards and the wider NHS
  • Recognised management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience Knowledge of quality and service improvement methodologies e.g. Bronze IQT
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults/Children including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Knowledge of information governance/data protection requirements
Experience
  • Relevant clinical experience
  • Relevant experience within specialty and able to demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant specialty
  • Proven post-registration experience and evidence of coordinating and managing a team of staff.
