We are seeking a confident, enthusiastic and pro-active receptionist to join our team here at Shield Vets!

As a receptionist, you will provide a customer focused service to our clients and their animals. You will need to be able to work well within a team as well as working individually. We are a professional and personable team working in a very challenging and busy environment, which makes the role varied, interesting and no day is ever the same!

You will need to have the ability to remain calm and work quickly under pressure and also show empathy in each situation you encounter, from sharing the excitement of a puppy's first visit to the vets or comforting a client who has received some bad news.

The role will see you provide general reception and admin duties such as answering the phone, booking appointments, dealing with queries, scanning, mailing, taking payments, over the counter sales etc and assisting the vets and nurses in the smooth running of the practice.

About Shield Veterinary Centre

Shield Veterinary Centre is a 2-branch practice situated between Portsmouth and Southampton. This position will be mainly based at our Bishops Waltham branch. We feel we are very lucky with our location as we are both close to the coast and the New Forest but also have easy access on the train to London.

More about you

We are looking for someone who has previous receptionist or customer facing experience. Previous veterinary industry experience would also be highly beneficial, but training will be given. Most importantly, we are looking for a team player who is flexible and adaptable - as there are so many aspects to the role, we need someone who is quick thinking and willing to learn!

Skills needed: Excellent IT skills and the ability to remain calm in a busy environment. Being able to work as part of a team, as well as using your own initiative is essential. You must also have a Full driving licence. Flexibility is required as you will be covering both branch surgeries.

You will work an average of 33 hours per week, usually 10-hour shifts on a Monday and Tuesday (1hr for lunch), and Wednesday and Friday 1pm-7pm. You will also be required to work 1 in 4 Saturday mornings working 8am-12pm. These shifts are at both our practices.
