Job summary

South Tyneside Council in South Shields is seeking a skilled Vehicle Technician to join our busy Workshop Team. The role covers inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of cars, vans, HGVs, refuse collection vehicles and specialist equipment to keep frontline services moving.

You will diagnose faults, prepare for annual MOT, maintain accurate servicing records and participate in winter maintenance and emergency response.

Qualifications

• Car, van, HGV and specialist equipment vehicle maintenance experience.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Prepare vehicles for annual MOT testing and conduct MOTs where qualified.

• Prepare vehicles for annual MOT testing and undertake MOT tests where qualified.
• Complete servicing records, inspection reports and defect documentation accurately.
• Participate in vehicle and plant recovery operations when required.
• Assist with seasonal maintenance and emergency response activities, including winter maintenance support.
• Work to high health and safety standards while contributing to a positive team environment.

Join Our Fleet Maintenance Team

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Vehicle Technician to join our busy Workshop Team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment that play a vital role in delivering essential services across the Borough.

As a Vehicle Technician, you will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of a wide range of vehicles and plant, including cars, vans, HGVs, refuse collection vehicles and specialist equipment. You will help ensure our fleet remains safe, compliant and available to support frontline services.

About the Role
