Job summary

Kirklees Metropolitan Council seeks a skilled Vehicle Technician to maintain its fleet to high standards in the Transport Services team. You will inspect HGVs, service vehicles, diagnose faults, and prepare units for DVSA tests while supporting apprentices and covering occasional breakdowns.

The role emphasizes safe, compliant, roadworthy vehicles, with training opportunities for DVSA/trainees and hybrid/electric vehicle work. A strong team player with good IT and communication skills fits well.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Certificate in Motor Vehicle Repair or equivalent.
  • DVSA MOT examiner certification or willingness to train at no cost.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and Class C licence or willingness to train (no cost).
  • Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Repair qualification or willingness to train (no cost).
  • Experience using diagnostic software.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with standby arrangements (approx. 1 week in 6) with extra payment.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and basic IT skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

About the Role

As a Vehicle Technician, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining Kirklees Council’s fleet to the highest standards. Working within our Transport Services team, you’ll help ensure our vehicles and plant are safe, compliant, and roadworthy.

About You

We’re looking for someone with the right qualifications and hands‑on experience. You’ll need:
