The Tax Manager is responsible for tax filings and reporting, including related systems and governance, for the group’s UK non-life insurance entities, subsidiaries, UK and non-UK branches and Lloyd’s entities, and contributing to the success of the wider team.

Job Description
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation and submission of UK and EU VAT and WHT returns and related filings, liaising with external advisers as applicable.
  • Oversee VAT registrations and de-registrations where necessary.
  • Monitor and assess VAT legislative changes in the UK and EU, and ensure business readiness as needed, including regarding e-invoicing compliance.
  • Drafting accounting journals following the return submissions.
  • Liaising with Accounts Payable to provide support, VAT training and updates.
  • Liaising with Financial Planning & Analysis regarding irrecoverable VAT cost and budgets.
  • Providing support for any tax authority requests and submissions.
  • Providing support to the wider business as needed from a VAT perspective, including in respect of daily operations, UK or EU projects, any new VAT developments and implications for Arch.
Role Requirements

The ability to independently organise, prioritise and manage several workstreams to meet statutory and internal deadlines.

Excellent attention to detail.

Confidence to ask questions / challenge information provided and initiative especially in dealing with areas of ambiguity.

A proactive attitude to identifying problems / better ways of working and recommending / implementing solutions.

Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to communicate tax‑technical issues to a non‑tax audience and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Accounting / tax qualification (e.g. ACA / ACCA / ATT / CTA) preferred but not essential if proven to operate at the appropriate level.
  • VAT compliance experience – essential.
  • Knowledge of Customs procedures (import VAT) – desired but not essential.
  • Insurance / Lloyd’s experience – desired but not essential.
