Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop and validate safety-critical software for aircraft flight systems. You will use MATLAB/Simulink to create control laws, deploy on target hardware, and perform real-world flight tests near the Bedford facility.

Essential: aerospace degree, flight dynamics understanding, and NSV clearance. Desirable: GN&C for fixed/rotary wings, embedded real-time experience, and DO-178/ED-20x knowledge. Collaborative role with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics and their impact on flight control.
• Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
• Hands-on experience designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing National Security Vetting clearance.
• Desirable: Guidance, navigation and control for fixed/rotary wing vehicles.
• Knowledge of sensing systems and state estimation methods.
• Hands-on experience with small UAS.
• MATWORKS Stateflow, Simulink Coder and Embedded Coder packages.
• Experience developing data fusion and state estimation algorithms.
• Experience with embedded, real-time, safety-critical systems.
• Knowledge of communications systems and git.
• C++, Java, Python development skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and test safety-critical software for flight systems.
• Contribute to requirements and algorithm development using MATLAB/Simulink.
• Deploy software to target hardware and conduct real-world flight testing.
• Present testing findings in reports or customer presentations.
• Contribute to SOP development and continuous improvement of methods.
• Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and uphold quality targets.
